Same calories, different day
Two days, the same 1,840 calories — one scores 31 Health Points, the other 78. Here is what makes the difference.

Take two days with exactly the same number: 1,840 calories. The first is a pastry for breakfast, a sandwich and a soda for lunch, pasta for dinner. The second is oatmeal with berries, a lentil soup with rye bread, and salmon with potatoes and vegetables.
A calorie counter calls them equal. Your body does not: the second day has several times the fiber, enough protein, healthy fats and far less added sugar. In EatBeat the first day scores around 31 Health Points, the second around 78.
What calories leave out
- Protein — keeps you full and keeps muscle.
- Fiber and whole grains — steady energy, a happy gut.
- Fats — which kind matters more than how much.
- Added sugar and salt — easy to overshoot without noticing.
- Vitamins and minerals — what a “light” day often lacks.
How EatBeat scores a day
Every meal is checked against 13 nutrients and your personal targets from the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2023, and the day is summed up as Health Points. Aim for 75+. Since version 1.4.4 (March 2026) a dish’s score depends on what you have already eaten that day: the same salad is worth more on a day that is short on vegetables.
Do calories still matter?
Yes — energy balance is real, and the number is there if you want it. It is just not the goal. A balanced day tends to take care of the calories; a calorie-perfect day does not take care of the balance.
